Dziewczyna Z Sasiedztwa and more news from Poland...

Hot off the presses, is a beautiful edition of Dziewczyna Z Sasiedztwa (The Girl Next Door), from Poland. Yet another stunning cover that helps pay off the karmic debt of the infamous "cheerleader" edition of the original paperback.
In other news from Poland, Jack will be attending Dni Fantastyki, in Wrocław, from June 25-27. A little about the event:

Dni Fantasyki was founded in 2003, and is held every year in the beautiful baroque castle of Leśnica. It is visited by thousands of people from around the country. The event centers around everything connected with fantasy, science-fiction, and horror, with literature being the main focus. As well as lectures and speeches given by the authors, Dni Fantastyki offers film screenings, discussion panels, book presenations and other more informal events. Every year a prominent figure from within these fields is selected to be a special guest. In the past few years, Dni Fantastyki has been visited by Graham Masterton, Alastair Reynolds, and other prominent European writers.

Dni Fantastyki is organized by CK "Zamek", a non-profit organization, with the help of the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Urząd Miasta (Town Hall) in Wrocław.

MODERNCINÉ is dedicated to making high-quality films by telling stories that are edgy and groundbreaking. Andrew van den Houten began his career in front of the camera as a child actor, performing in commercials in his native New York City. While still in his teens, he hosted a pilot for Nickelodeon and was a familiar face on the stand-up comedy circuit in New York City. A film graduate of Boston's Emerson College, he marked his freshman year by producing and co-starring in the independent feature film "Alma Mater", a recipient of the Audience Award at the 2002 Austin Film Festival. Andrew founded MODERNCINÉ during his junior year of college. He has always envisioned the company as an ideal vehicle for showcasing both his own creativity and that of his colleagues. MODERNCINÉ's first film production, "Inherent Darkness and Enlightenment", was also the first at Emerson to be completed on a 35mm print. Andrew served as writer, producer and director.

Jack Ketchum: His first novel, Off Season, prompted the Village Voice to publicly scold its publisher in print for publishing violent pornography. He personally disagrees but is perfectly happy to let you decide for yourself. His short story The Box won a 1994 Bram Stoker Award from the HWA, his story Gone won again in 2000 -- and in 2003 he won Stokers for both best collection for Peaceable Kingdom and best long fiction for Closing Time. He has written eleven novels, arguably twelve, four of which have been filmed -- The Lost, The Girl Next Door, Red, and Offspring. His novella The Crossings was cited by Stephen King in his speech at the 2003 National Book Awards. http://www.jackketchum.net

Lucky McKee is an American director, writer, and actor, largely known for the 2002 film “May” which has acquired a cult following. McKee has also directed “Sick Girl”, the tenth episode of the first season of the popular Showtime TV series “Master of Horror” He directed the movie “The Woods” and produced the film “The Lost”.

Ryan Shore: Scare-master composer Ryan Shore has penned the scores for horror movies including “The Girl Next Door”,” Offspring”, “Headspace”, “Home Movie”, “Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer”, “Shadows”, and the upcoming “Cabin Fever 2”. Ryan's other scores include “Prime”, “Lower Learning”, “Numb”, “Harvard Man”, “Vulgar”, and the upcoming “Stan Helsing”. www.ryanshore.com

Pollyanna McIntosh: Growing up in Portugal and Colombia encouraged an independent spirit in Pollyanna McIntosh from a young age. After her family moved back to their native homeland of Scotland, a modeling agent noticed McIntosh, bringing about a move to London at the age of sixteen. A successful modeling career took her all over the world and soon she had cameos in films such as “The Fifth Element” and Irvine Welsh's “The Acid House”. After graduating with honors in drama and theatre studies from London's University of Surrey she became involved in the London theatre scene both as an actress and director and acted in several independent movies.

Thrliller! Chiller!: "Thriller! Chiller! debuted in October, 2006 as a collaboration between friends, filmmakers and small business owners of West Michigan film production companies, Fulvew Films and UnSAFE Film Office. This fresh faced and forward thinking film festival broke new ground in West Michigan by featuring well made, content driven genre films and reviving interest in cult classics such as Jaws, The Shining and Raiders of the Lost Ark, honoring them all with impeccable screen presentation, appreciation for audience participation and a high respect for the filmmaker themselves and their dedication to the craft.

Thriller! Chiller! typically takes place every year on the weekend before Halloween, however, in lieu of this year's celebration, they are thrilled - and chilled - to be a part of Scarefest in Muskegon. We are honored to be a part of what we are certain will be an exciting and inspiring opportunity for all of the Michigan film scene to experience, and look forward to sharing some of our favorite genre short films from previous Thriller! Chiller! Film Festivals. www.thrillerchiller.com

Italian Zombie Movie: When a massive human experiment goes awry, a brave soldier, a beautiful psychic, a sexy succubus, her oafish boyfriend, two spacemen and the always intriguing Michigan Militia unwittingly combine forces against a landfill of the living dead! Premiering at the Harbor Theater last May, and now an official selection of the 2009 Summer Tromadance Film Festival, "The Italian Zombie Movies - Parts 1 & 2" make up Muskegon's first no-budget zombie/comedy miniseries, parodying the contrived plots and blatant misogyny of the 1980's European horror genre. Made almost entirely in Muskegon, and without any budget whatsoever, "The Italian Zombie Movies" are Muskegon's original cult movies! www.theitalianzombiemovie.com

The Harbor Theater: is a non profit, independent, art house theater www.theharbortheater.com

New Holland Brewery: Established in 1996, NHBC has grown from a scrappy two-man start-up to a thriving regional microbrewery, recognized for its creativity and artistry. We are very proud of our accomplishments thus far, and believe in earning our place in the brewing industry and in our customer’s hearts and minds everyday. All of our beer is brewed in Holland, Michigan. www.newhollandbrew.com
